PDF24 is a legitimate service run by a registered German company, and it publishes how it handles files. Safety depends on which version you use.

If you are merging a tenancy agreement with scanned ID cards, use Creator so nothing leaves your computer. If you are compressing a public brochure, the online tool is fine. Companies that process personal data through the online tools can request a data processing agreement from PDF24. Creator needs none, because it works locally.

Local processing has one history worth knowing. Version 11.30.1, released April 24, 2026, fixed a case where the PDF form editor inside Creator tried to upload a file to the online service even though that was unnecessary. PDF24 describes the upload as incorrect behavior and fixed it. Versions 11.31.0 and 11.31.1 also closed security problems in which a crafted PDF or invoice file could run script inside the toolbox, and PDF24 recommends that all users update. Download Creator only from the official PDF24 site, and keep it updated.

Two changes affect everyday use. In Windows 11, a right-click on a PDF now shows PDF24 in the main menu, so you no longer open “Show more options” to merge or compress. And Creator no longer has an online converter as a fallback, so a file that cannot be converted on your computer now produces a message that explains why, such as “unpack the ZIP first” or “Office documents need Microsoft Office or LibreOffice”.

The installer is large. The 11.31.0 EXE is about 355 MB according to ComputerBase. If you only need basic tasks on an older PC, version 9 leaves out the toolbox, Java and WebView2 and is much smaller, and it still runs on Windows 7.

If you use a Mac and handle private files, PDF24 cannot give you an offline option, so check a Mac-based tool instead. The browser tools work on any device, but every file goes to PDF24’s servers.

Can PDF24 edit existing PDF text?

No. PDF24’s Edit PDF tool lets you add text, drawings and images, and it can cover content with shapes, but you cannot click a sentence in the original PDF and retype it. PDF24’s own editing page tells you to convert the PDF to Word if you need to change the text.

The workaround is better in 2026 than before. Version 11.33.0 improved PDF to Word: scans with a text layer become editable text, tables become real Word tables, and layouts with two columns keep their shape. For a scan with no text at all, run OCR first. Creator now points this out when you try to extract text from an image-only PDF.

Looking for subtitles for your favourite movies, TV shows or anime? What changed since 2024

• Subscene is gone. Its owner announced the closure on May 2, 2024, and the site is offline. TorrentFreak reported that it had not been financially viable for years. Archive Team saved part of its content. Any site using the name today is not the original.
• OpenSubtitles moved to .com. The older opensubtitles.org has been phased out and its old connection for apps closed to free users. The current service is OpenSubtitles.com, where free accounts have a daily download limit.
• English-Subtitles.org is reported offline. Several 2026 reviews list it as gone, so skip any list that still recommends it.

OpenSubtitles.com has the biggest library here, and it is the only site on this list that can match a subtitle to your exact video file. Drag the video into the search box, and the site reads the file’s digital fingerprint (called a hash) and shows subtitles made for that version. You can also search by title, release name or IMDb number, and filter by language, hearing-impaired files, trusted uploaders and machine translations.

If you have “Dune.Part.Two.2024.2160p.WEB-DL.mkv” and want Portuguese subtitles, drag the file in and you see only subtitles made for that release, with no trial and error. If you teach a film class and want accurate Spanish text, filter out machine translations and keep trusted uploads. Each result shows its download count, rating and upload date, and a file with thousands of downloads is usually safer than one nobody has tried.

The limit is the daily quota. Free accounts have a cap, and a user report from late October 2026 puts it at 20 downloads a day. OpenSubtitles’ own help page says 5 a day without an account when an app downloads for you. How to pick the right file

The release name in your video’s file name decides which subtitle fits. A subtitle timed for one version of a film can be off by several seconds on another.

Check three things before you download: the release tag, the frame rate (23.976 and 25 fps are the common ones) and the version (theatrical, extended or TV edit). Also read the labels on the subtitle itself. SDH or HI means it includes sound descriptions such as [music] and [door slams]. Pick a file without those labels if you want dialogue only. A forced subtitle shows only the lines in a foreign language inside a film that is otherwise in your own.

Is CrackStreams still working?

No official CrackStreams exists. Anti-piracy group ACE took down a Vietnam-based network that included the site in December 2024, and any site using the name now is a copy.

Is StreamEast shut down?

ACE and Egyptian authorities raided the StreamEast network in August 2025 and announced the shutdown on September 3, 2025. In July 2026 a Cairo court sentenced two operators to two years in prison each. StreamEast disputed the shutdown at the time, and copies using its name still circulate.

What replaced CrackStreams?

No single site did. Fans moved to licensed services such as ESPN Unlimited, Fox One, Paramount+, DAZN and Peacock, or to free broadcasts through an antenna.

Are CrackStreams alternatives legal?

Licensed services are legal. Sites that stream games without rights are not, and their operators have been prosecuted.
