Health Tips: How To Prevent Hangovers This Holiday Season?


As the holiday season quickly approaches, you’re probably trying to mentally prepare yourself for all of the holiday events you’ll have to attend. With many holiday events, alcohol is served, which can lead to you easily overdoing it if you’re not too careful. No one wants to wake up with a massive hangover, but if you drink too much without pacing yourself, the morning after will likely not be fun. If you find yourself turning to alcohol on a regular basis, you may want to learn the signs of alcoholism to understand if your drinking is problematic or not.

Drink Enough Fluids

Alcohol can dehydrate you, so make sure you drink plenty of water and other fluids. The more alcohol you drink, the more your body produces urine. The more you urinate, the more fluid you lose, causing dehydration. The pounding headache you experience during a hangover is caused by dehydration. It can help to drink a tall glass of water before going to bed after a night of drinking. Drink it slowly, and make sure to keep a bottle of water on your nightstand so you can drink more during the night if needed.

Take Supplements Ahead Of Time 

You’ll likely have a hangover in the morning if you drink too much because a hangover is when your body is dehydrated, and when it’s trying to get rid of the toxins consumed with alcohol. There are some supplements, such as a DHM hangover supplement, that can be taken before you go to bed. When you wake up after taking a supplement such as this, you may still have some hangover symptoms, but they may not be as bad. You can look for supplements containing dihydromyricetin, B-1, B-6, and B-12.

Remember To Eat 

Make it a priority to have more than alcohol for dinner. Drinking on an empty stomach is never a good idea. When there is food in your stomach, alcohol is absorbed at a much slower pace than if you were to drink on an empty stomach. Drinking on an empty stomach will make you get drunk at a much quicker rate, leading to a pretty bad hangover the next morning. Before you head out for a night of drinking, try to consume a well-balanced meal with complex carbohydrates, protein, and healthy fats.

Go Slow And Stick With Clear Liquor

One of the best ways to avoid drinking too much is to go slow. Have one drink, and then wait a while to see how that one affects you before drinking anything else with alcohol. If you drink too much at once, you don’t know how your body is going to react, and you may find yourself drunker than you expected to be. You’ll also want to avoid drinking alcohol with congeners, which are the darker liquors such as brandy, tequila, and whiskey, as these get you drunk quicker.

Get Plenty Of Sleep  

After a night of drinking, you will want to make sure you give yourself plenty of time to sleep. Getting up and having to go to work or school after being intoxicated the night before is not ideal, so try and plan your drinking nights around your schedule. If you’re unable to sleep in the next day, make sure you at least take it easy. Trying to do too much on very little sleep when you’re hungover will just make you feel worse. Hangovers are never fun, and you’ll want to do everything you can to make sure you don’t end up with them. It’s very helpful to drink slowly so you can determine when you’ve had too much before you even become intoxicated.
